Scotland wants high-speed network

New research has found there is a huge demand in Scotland for the roll-out of next generation broadband, it has been reported.

According to a study commissioned by management consultancy Mott MacDonald, 84 per cent of the country's online population say they want access to faster internet, PublicTechnology.net reveals.

In addition, the survey discovered 87 per cent of respondents would like to use the technology to gain access to films and TV, 71 per cent want to use online learning tools and 63 per cent would like to use video calls.

Tom Allen, director of the information, communications & media division at the firm, told the news provider: "The roll-out of high speed broadband is going to be key to the future of the Scottish economy. It will allow the country’s businesses to grow and innovate."

He also called on the Scottish government to invest in developing the country's fibre network.

Last week, IT Pro reported that research from Point-Topic found there is increasing demand for high-speed internet connections in UK businesses.
