Outsourcing to grow in 2008

New research has revealed that the global market for outsourcing is expected to grow significantly this year. Technology consultant Gartner issued the report, which predicted that the sector will grow by eight per cent over the course of 2008. The firm also noted one possible cause for the anticipated spike in demand, with 2007 notching up a historically-low number of publically-disclosed IT outsourcing contracts. Kurt Potter, research director at Gartner, said that IT sourcing strategies and governance structures remain "immature, lacking altogether or misaligned with enterprise objectives" for many companies. He added: "Because these organisations lack the basic building blocks for successful vendor management and outsourcing success, expected cost savings and other benefits are difficult to obtain." Last month, Unisys said that a "profound transformation" in the way people work had created new "service requirements and imperatives" - posing a significant challenge to companies offering outsourcing services.
