IT outsourcing 'top business tool'

IT outsourcing is predicted to grow as the credit crunch bites into businesses' finances, it has been claimed.

According to EquaTerra's Advisor and BPO/ITO Service Provider Pulse Survey 3Q08, the service is currently the top tool used by companies to carry out organisational change.

The findings show demand for outsourcing is exceeding investments in areas such as hardware, software or other types of service.

In addition, 40 per cent of overall respondents told the research firm they have increased their demand levels for IT outsourcing over the last quarter, with 64 per cent of those in Europe reporting this compared to 25 per cent in the Americas.

Stan Lepeak, managing director of global research at EquaTerra, said "developing and adopting standardised outsourcing governance operational models" as well as investing in skilled personnel are strategies businesses will use in coming months to achieve their objectives.

Earlier this month, Mark Kobayashi-Hillary, writing on markkobayashihillary.computing.co.uk, suggested firms looking to outsource IT operations should consider UK-based providers.
