IT focus grows across industry

A growing number of sectors are realising the benefits of investing in IT and technology solutions, the British Computer Society (BCS) has stated. The independent IT group cited the rapid expansion of the UK's financial sector as one example of how technological integration can fuel growth, but it cautioned that effective IT solutions must be tailored individually to different industries. In order to encourage this sector-specific growth, an ever-increasing "cross-section" of society - including more young people and women - are now undergoing IT training with the blessing of employer groups. And with a "broader mix" of staff now attaining the ECDL (European Computer Driver License) user-level qualification, BCS government relations manager David Evans said all the indications are that the UK will be at the forefront of the digital expansion. "The thriving media sector in Britain is extremely IT intensive, as are manufacturing services," he noted. "The result is that people who work in these sectors are having to become IT experts - and IT experts in these fields are having to develop the deepest understanding of the sector they are working in."
