Growth in telecommunications and IT continues

Cuts in selling prices and rises in volumes and values of businesses are driving growth in the telecommunications and IT sector, it has been revealed. The Confederation of British Industry (CBI) said these companies have continued to see their ability to make profits improve over the last three months while other industries deteriorated. An increasing number of people are working in telecommunications and IT jobs as employment in the sector grows at a "healthy rate". Ian McCafferty, chief economic advisor at CBI, said telecoms and IT are among a small band of companies performing well within the services sector as many firms lose out due to falling consumer spending on these products. He added: "The telecoms and IT sector has seen a run of strong profitability growth." It was revealed recently that the IT, telecommunications and digital consumer electronics market is worth £121 billion to the UK, making it the most lucrative in Europe.
