Outsourcing 'retains firms' control'

A new study has suggested firms which use outsourcing can plan more effectively while retaining control of their operations.

Data centre company Sentrum said that its latest research claimed UK businesses are choosing to outsource as they view it as a viable and responsible approach to meeting their business targets.

In a poll of 100 companies, 43 per cent revealed they currently outsource some of their activities, with 28 per cent of these saying they first outsourced within the last 12 months.

Furthermore, 35 per cent of businesses which do not outsource said they intend to do so at some point in the future.

Other findings show that 79 per cent of IT managers do not believe they have to give up control when outsourcing, while 21 per cent said it increases their ability to plan IT expansion or consolidation.

Andy Ruhan, chief executive officer at Sentrum, said: "In today's market with financial pressures facing many firms, now is just the right time for outsourcing to become this season’s business essential."

Business Link points out that the benefits of outsourcing include cost savings, increased flexibility and access to external expertise and technologies.
