Business growth 'to be delivered by understanding of technology'

An understanding of technology needs to delivered urgently for companies to reduce costs and improve operating efficiency in the current economic climate, it is claimed. It will play a key role in helping chief financial officers to drive business growth, according to industry analyst Gartner. The organisation also advises the early inclusion of IT teams in business process outsourcing. Cathy Tornbohm, research vice president at Gartner, recommends a joint approach to IT strategy can help to make this outsourcing successful. She adds: "The chief information officer can help the chief financial officer's team to avoid common mistakes as well as taking proactive steps to ensure that team members are well briefed about all the technical and outsourcing implications at the start of the process." A recent report by Gartner suggests organisations need to overhaul their culture of IT if they want to meet business demands. It claims IT organisations will not be able to achieve this by simply working harder and states generations of expectations, skills and technology will need to be replaced to close the gap on "accelerating business demands".
