IT managers have budget concerns

IT managers are preparing themselves for a tough year ahead, predicting the economic environment will see their budgets cut in the next 12 to 18 months.

Research from CIO Connect, surveying chief information officers (CIO)at a conference, found 80 per cent think they will be asked to provide better value, almost three quarters predicted more process efficiency will be asked for and 71 per cent cited containing costs as a prospective request.

In addition, 59 per cent of respondents thought their budgets would be cut, in order to save the company money.

Firms reported that IT departments are not as involved in the business side of firms as often as they would like, with but 40 per cent saying the CIO has a place on the company board.

Nick Kirkland, chief executive of CIO Connect, said: "The difficult economic backdrop looks to be casting a cloud over the forecasts of IT managers for the 18 months ahead."

ComputerWeekly.com has revealed a fifth of firms plan to cut IT security budgets, according to a survey from Verisign.
