IT upgrades 'boost demand for experts'

Companies in the UK are showing greater interest in employees with IT expertise due to the increasing use of new technologies, it has been suggested.

Research conducted by the Yoh Index of Technology found that demand for IT skills will grow between six and ten per cent in the UK and worldwide during early 2008.

Internet and network management knowledge are among the most highly-desired areas, according to the research group, with expertise in session announcement protocol reported to see 85 per cent growth over the next few months.

Further to this, help desk and technical support experts are likely to be in demand as more firms bring in new business telecommunications applications, according to Illinois-based IT trade organisation CompTIA.

In addition, the group suggested demand for support staff will remain strong as applications grow in complexity and new communications technologies, such as VoIP, are being added to current systems.
