UK 'ahead of Europe in providing remote working'

The UK is ahead of nearly of most of Europe when it comes to the provision of remote working, it has been revealed.

A survey found the 93 per cent of employers polled want such practices in their workplaces, itpro.co.uk reports.

However, it said there is still room for improvement, particularly as only 22 per cent of UK companies can make provisions for remote working on a daily basis.

Nick Roullier, UK manager at Avaya, told the website the research shows there is a "digital divide" in Europe.

He added this is now categorised by those who have the ability to offer remote working and "gain workforce productivity and efficiency while retaining their best employees, and those who are putting their businesses at risk because they don't have the technology to support what their workers are asking for".

A recent article on zdnet.co.uk suggested companies should set out remote working plans to prepare for increased changes to flexible working legislation which are set to make the practice more prevalent.
