Quarter of staff 'would accept lower pay for home working'

One in four employees would be willing to be paid less if they could work from home, a new survey suggests.

In addition, the research from security software firm Famatech found that 83 per cent of workers admitted that their decision on starting a new job would factor in whether they can do it from home.

But only 14 per cent of respondents said they are encouraged by their employer to work away from the office, while 16 per cent said home working was prohibited by their company.

"It is astonishing so few companies encourage home working despite the numerous competitive, financial and environmental benefits that can be gained from doing so," said Famatech's marketing director Anton Levchuk.

"The quality of the remote access technology now available ensures that 'working from home' doesn't mean the employee will be delivering less value or getting any less work done."

Communications between firms and employees at home has been improved by the growth of VoIP services, which allow workers to connect to the company's web-based call routing system so they can stay in touch with clients just as they would in the office.
