Mobile comms 'need to be secure'

Businesses need to make sure that mobile communications are undertaken with the same diligence as office interactions, it has been suggested.

According to a recent report by Vodafone, a number of UK employees have admitted to having sensitive business conversations while on the move.

One in five workers has even taken the risk of discussing their boss in public, despite not knowing who may be listening, the report found - stressing the need for secure mobile communications.

Samantha Botting, a senior consultant at Vodafone UK, has said that using alternative comms services such as email and text will offer a greater degree of privacy and security for business communications.

Commenting on the use of phones on trains, Ms Botting explained: "[Some] 70 per cent of people are talking business while on their phone while they're travelling but only six per cent of people use codenames for things that are highly sensitive."

She suggested that new mobile communications technology such as roaming internet avoids this problem by allowing employees to communicate using email instead.
