Mobile and remote working risks raised by CIOs

Security risks associated with mobile communications devices and remote working are a primary concern for chief information officers (CIOs), according to research.

A survey by the Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA) found the 2,024 respondents believe risks with mobile communications technology have increased significantly compared to a year ago.

Threats are said to include loss or theft of device or data, phishing attacks and unauthorised use or misuse of mobile devices.

Laurel Chivari, vice-president of marketing and communications at CompTIA, said remote working trends are also presenting challenges for CIOs.

She said: "As global trends of workforce mobility and decentralisation place a greater strain on IT security infrastructure, it is becoming increasingly more complex for IT departments to safeguard information."

Despite these concerns, the benefits of remote working are said to be greater than ever.

Working from home can save business executives four hours a day in dealing with unnecessary call and emails, it has been argued by Work Wise Week UK.
