Homeworking 'rises sharply'

UK applications for teleworking almost doubled during the last month, it has been revealed.

According to Recruiter.co.uk, studies carried out by job website TipTopJobs.com found the number of workers looking for home-based roles during the month of September increased to 1,673 from 1,176 in August - a rise of 42 per cent.

The news provider reports comments made by Corinne Dauncey, marketing manager at the researcher, that it is becoming increasingly acceptable to work from home.

"However, such a sharp rise is not in line with our predictions," she added.

"We believe it's another worrying sign that consumer confidence is low and that candidates are worried about the current economic turmoil."

Earlier this week, onrec.com reported the results of a study carried out by Aastra, indicating employees could save up to £174 between now and Christmas if technology such as VoIP is deployed to allow them to work from home one day a week.
