Demand for outsourcing 'to remain strong'

The business process outsourcing (BPO) market is set for strong demand, according to research.

A four-year forecast published by BPO analysts NelsonHall has predicted the market will reach $450 billion (£229.1 billion) worldwide by 2012, ITPro.co.uk reports.

It said this will be in response to difficult economic conditions which will speed up the process of globalisation and lead to organisations looking at outsourcing options to reduce costs, particularly in the financial services and telecommunications sectors.

The report also stated there was growth in the total value of BPO deals across all the major geographic areas in 2007.

Industry analysts Gartner revealed recently there has been a decline in "megadeals" - those over $1 billion - as outsourcing becomes "business as usual" for many companies.

Kurt Potter, research director at Gartner, said this creates a "false impression" that outsourcing is decreasing and added providers are looking at smaller contract strategies as a result of "new market realities".
