Companies 'should encourage remote working'

Businesses need to refocus on looking after their employees and actively encourage remote working to take advantage of its benefits, it has been claimed.

According to whatpc.com, there is a threat that working from home could become one of the first casualties of the credit crunch.

The website argues that given the current financial situation, companies should be embracing remote working as they "need to squeeze every drop of efficiency from their operations and flexible working can help do that".

Latest research by Microsoft has found ten per cent of 1,000 office workers surveyed feel they have the necessary freedom to take part in remote working despite a quarter of senior managers stating they would leave their jobs within six months if it was not an option.

However, a new report by the Institute of Directors found over 90 per cent of businesses un the UK are willing to support flexible working hours even if there is no legal requirement.
