Businesses need to be 'more receptive to remote working'

Employers need to change their attitudes and be more receptive to the possibilities of remote working, it has been claimed.

A telecommunications employment expert has suggested employees would prefer to work from outside the office, while business remain insistent on their staff commuting into the office.

This "you want what?" mindset needs to change if organisations are to attract people to work for them, it is claimed.

Caroline Waters, director of employment policy at BT, commented that managers only want people close to give them control.

She added: "Flexibility and being hot on the green agenda allows you to reach out and get the best people who all have different perspectives."

Fears over security risks associated with mobile communications devices and remote working may be putting businesses off providing these opportunities.

A survey by the Computing Technology Industry Association found recently that chief information officers believe risks with mobile communications technology have increased significantly compared to a year ago.
