Broadband 'improves prospects for homeworkers'

The gains made in reliable broadband services and mobile communications are allowing people to work from home more easily, according to Work Wise UK.

Work Wise aims to promote smart business practices and has issued a statement asserting that homeworking and mobile connectivity has many benefits for both business communications and staff retention, allowing for improved productivity and increased competition in the marketplace.

A spokesperson for the non-profit organisation said that broadband is also helping people who are finding it difficult to work due to care responsibilities.

"By working from home, whether they run their own business or work for an employer, they can actually get back into the work pool," says Phil Flaxton, chief executive of Work Wise UK.

Recent research carried out by BT Business has found that there are more than two million home-based businesses in the UK.

Mr Flaxton claims that the rise in high-speed broadband services and mobile voice communications has played a large part in enabling people to do this.
