UK companies advised to utilise remote working

Work Wise Week in May is an ideal time for a contact centre to experiment with flexible working practices such as remote working, it has been claimed.

The not-for-profit initiative, which runs from the May 15th to May 21st, will encourage British businesses to adopt "smarter working practices".

Figures from ContactBabel revealed only one in 60 of the UK's 960,000 contact centre staff works from home, but commentators have said this could be about to change.

Phil Flaxton, chief executive of Work Wise UK, said remote working opened up the jobs market.

"Offering home working provides opportunities to those who would otherwise not be able to work, such as mature workers, those with personal responsibilities such as carers and parents, and those with disabilities which makes commuting difficult."

Mona Sultan, an analyst with Datamonitor, predicted "virtual offices" will soon become so mainstream they will simply be referred to as "contact centres once more".

Technology advances are prompting a rise in remote working, it has been found.
