Wireless VoIP 'delivers cost benefits'

Wireless VoIP is set to transform mobile communications in the same way that its wired counterpart has transformed office connectivity, VoIP News reports. The online publication asserts that as this happens, businesses can look to capitalise on increased mobile productivity associated with the technology, offering secure high-speed voice and data solutions. WVoIP, as the service is known, can deliver particularly dramatic savings for those making high volumes of international calls, with providers charging calls at up to one hundredth of the cost of conventional phone tariffs. However, WVoIP currently falls short in terms of coverage as it is dependent on wireless networks which - unlike mobile phone networks - do not cover large metropolitan areas consistently. With the rise of wide-area WiMAX networks, that could change in the coming years, the publication reports, with mobile communications set to benefit considerably from the new technology. A recent report by the WiMAX forum has predicted that there will be around 900 approved WiMAX products on the market by 2011, highlighting the technology's rapid rate of growth.
