UK firms 'would adopt mobile comms'

A new study has found the "overwhelming" majority of small and medium sized business enterprises (SMEs) are ready to embrace mobile communications.

The Accuris Networks survey involved independent polling of SMEs throughout the UK and Ireland to establish whether they would be prepared to converge fixed and mobile communications services.

Carried out by the University College Dublin Michael Smurfit School of Business, the study reported that a large majority of respondents stating that they believ mobile communications delivered tangible business benefits in terms of productivity and mobility.

The survey also revealed a desire for increased product innovation, with SMEs being most dissatisfied with this area of their current business communications.

John Barron, vice-president of marketing at Accuris Networks, said that as well as providing considerable cost benefits, mobile connectivity also improved corporate image in the mind of the consumer.

A white paper published by PC Pro magazine asserts that mobile communications allow businesses to be more flexible in managing customer problems by encouraging collaboration between partners, suppliers and consumers.
