'Protect customers from text risks'
 
Using mobile communications to reach customers can be useful for a company although they should ensure their procedure is secure, it has been claimed.

According to Dan Perrin, business development manager at BulkSMS.co.uk, using text messages can be a safe and reliable way to contact clients, as most people carry their phones with them at all times and read them immediately.

However, he points out: "Due to the broad appeal of text messaging for business communications, phishing scams now also target mobile phone users by using a text to initiate a communication."

Mr Perrin suggests firms make their clients aware of the type of messages they will send and what information might be requested to reduce the chance of them becoming victims.

It is also recommended companies carry out regular reviews of the messages they send out to see if they can be made more secure, while call centre staff should also be well trained in how to deal with them.
