Mobile workers 'need strong communications channels'

Mobile workers are increasingly required to undertake complex administrative and correspondence tasks while in the field, it has been claimed.

Businesses with any number of sales or marketing staff, among a number of other job descriptions, are likely to benefit from providing remote working solutions to their employees, according to industry commentator LiquidTalk.

David Peak, chief executive officer of the firm, stated that "Mobile workers are typically the customer-facing, revenue-generating engine for organisations" - emphasising the need for strong network support to allow them to undertake their roles effectively.

He adds that such organisations sacrifice revenue on a daily basis due to the fact that they are "ill-equipped to manage an increasingly disconnected mobile workforce".

Mr Peak stressed the financial as well as practical implications of failing to provide network solutions to a moving workforce - citing IDC figures for the US which identify a growing trend for employees to be mobile.

Meanwhile, Dell has reported figures from the same global research consultancy that reveal around half of the European workforce were set to be mobile in 2007.
