Mobile instant messaging 'growing'

Mobile instant messaging is an increasingly popular form of business communications, it has been claimed.

Mickael Remond, chief executive of ProcessOne, highlighted that firms are looking for technologies which allow them to have immediate contact with their employees or clients and grant access to information.

He explained: "People are using instant messaging on the desktop to synchronise or get in touch with a co-worker and to open urgent papers."

Mr Remond also suggested the mobile communications solution allows workers to be in touch with clients in a simple and real-time way.

Furthermore, the expert pointed out the scope of mobile instant messaging solutions, as they can be used for trivial applications such as chatting to more serious ones like gathering information.

A study by Forrester Research claimed European mobile instant messaging will grow threefold over next six years, from 26.7 million subscribers in 2007 to 80 million subscribers by 2013.

In addition, the UK and Sweden are tipped to be the leaders in the adoption of the technology.
