Mobile communications market to grow

A new report has shown that the mobile communications market is growing, despite the current economic climate.

The Worldwide Mobile Market Forecasts 2009 – 2013 study from Portio Research shows that more than half the world currently uses a mobile phone.

Furthermore, it predicts that 80 per cent of the globe's population, or 5.8 billion people, will have adopted mobile communications by the end of 2013.

The research discovered that China is the main growth market, with India in second and Brazil in third, with Africa, the Middle East and Latin America expected to show high levels of growth in the future.

John White, Business Development Manager at Portio Research, commented: "In 2006 we predicted that over half the world would be using a mobile phone by 2009 thought by many to be wishful thinking at the time."

"Despite this the mobile industry achieved this milestone early in 2008."

Last week, it was announced that the Times' World Telecoms Conference will be held on November 3rd and 4th to examine global issues facing the industry.
