Mobile communications 'increasingly important'

The benefits of mobile communications for companies in the field service sector have been highlighted. According to Service Management Online, organisations which operate away from the office, such as firms carrying out inspections or those with mobile sales teams, can see productivity increases if they have an effective business communications strategy. In addition, the news provider points out up to 3.5 million people in the UK work from home, which is an increase of 600,000 since 1997, meaning mobile communications are becoming increasingly important. Stressing the benefits, the article claims: "The ability to effectively reduce travel, administration time and costs, while improving productivity and safe working practices for field-based operations through mobility, that additionally protect the environment at the same time, is understandably an attractive solution." It also says the applications for mobile communications are infinite and can be used all across a business' activities. Recently, Chris Roberts, country director for UK at mobile accessories company Parrot, suggested firms could find benefits in using Near Field Communication as it simplifies the process of transferring information through Bluetooth.
