IM now supported on BlackBerry

The maker of the BlackBerry has announced the device can now be linked up to corporate messaging structures.

Research in Motion (RIM), the phone's manufacturer, said it can now support Microsoft's communications server, which allows users to log into the messaging systems, reports VUNet.com.

The new programme means people can use instant messaging on the device, communicating with other office communicators and BlackBerry users.

Mark Guibert, vice president of marketing at RIM, told the website the move "brings the latest advances in enterprise IM and presence into a seamless user experience on BlackBerry smartphones for businesses and government organisations".

Colleagues within a firm can also engage in multi-party messaging with numerous people, or can opt for a one-on-one conversation.

It also means a user can be alerted when another employee comes online, allowing instant conversation.

Andrew Lim, mobile phones editor for CNET, recently asserted the Blackberry has a major advantage over the iPhone as Microsoft documents can be edited on it.
