In today's global environment, effective communications can make or break a business, one analyst claims. Citing a recent study that reported increasing growth in mobile communications markets, commentator Edwin Yapp notes that there is a need for business managers to ensure their employees are equipped with the tools and services necessary to operate effectively in the office and on the move. Unified communications strategies can help businesses achieve this aim, he argues, with three spheres of improved interaction noted. With converged communications, he states, firms can benefit from better messaging, synchronous and asynchronous communications, allowing employees to stay in touch using both real-time voice and data technologies and static media such as blogs and discussion threads. A recently published study has found that employees in Ireland feel that recent developments in mobile communications have allowed them to improve productivity, with some 55 per cent of respondents to the Vodafone survey saying the quality of their work has improved as a result.
