Green IT 'massive' in 2008

Companies are set to focus their budgets on environmentally-friendly measures more than ever before, it has been suggested.

According to Gary Fowle, marketing director at Fujitsu Siemens, there is an increasing willingness for firms to take at look at their network's carbon footprints since cost savings can be achieved as well.

"Green IT is a massive theme for 2008 and customers will start to scrutinise the credentials of suppliers much more," he told VNUnet.com.

Among the measures that it was suggested could play a role in expanding green IT over the next 12 months was video conferencing, server virtualisation and electronic document management.

However, it was also noted that companies are increasingly looking to make use of an IT and communications solution that covers all their needs - including greener systems.

For this reason, Anthony Norman, business group director at market research firm GfK, told the tech website that there can "only be more activity" in the data and communications reseller sector as companies converge to offer as many services as possible.
