Opportunities for electronic document management growth

The electronic document management market could see opportunities for growth, it has been claimed.

Research from IT analyst IDC predicts the demand for online storage services is strong in forms of all sizes which are experiencing tight financial pressures.

A study of 812 businesses found electronic document management is growing more popular as the volumes of digital data they need to store increases, while the long-term backing-up, sharing and preserving of information is also highlighted.

Brad Nisbet, program manager for storage and data management services at IDC, commented: "As consumers and business organisations continue to generate vast amounts of data and seek optimum methods to store and protect them, the growth of storage capacities delivered through storage-as-a-service offerings will outpace traditional storage architectures."

Laura DuBois, program director for Storage Software at the firm, also predicted electronic document management technologies will eventually advance to adopt more cloud computing initiatives.

Last month, research from Iron Mountain suggested businesses are increasingly outsourcing their document management, with UK firms making more use of this than their French or German counterparts.
