Outsourced management 'useful in credit crunch'

Outsourcing IT activities such as storage can help a firm to cut its operating costs, it has been suggested.

Many businesses spend time, money and resources implementing data storage without considering using an external firm for document management, according to US firm Remote Data Backup.

Furthermore, because the costs of dealing with data and document management in-house are often small parts of the IT and payroll budgets they can be over looked, the company claims.

"Outsourcing the backing up of critical data is one of the best ways to increase the level of protection while decreasing the expenditure required to perform this vital function," the organisation claimed.

In addition, it is predicted that as the current economic downturn makes cost-cutting exercises more important to business, the benefits of outsourcing data will become a more attractive option.

Last week, research from Iron Mountain found 42 per cent of UK companies store their paper records at an outsourced location, making them more likely to do so than French and German organisations.
