Virtualisation 'a key strategy'

An industry expert has commented that virtualisation can offer key benefits for a wide range of business models.

Mr Tanapong Ittisakulchai, systems and technology development manager at IBM, told the Nation that virtual network operators allow businesses to pursue more efficient communications with clients and business partners.

He added that in the future, consolidating data servers and adopting virtualised networks will be "a must" for all businesses.

There are three ways to move towards a virtualised business communications strategy, with physical consolidation of existing network architecture being the vital first step, he comments.

Secondly, businesses should look to share network infrastructure for easier management and provisioning of resources, with a period of "dynamic" testing to fulfil the final requirement of ensuring that the virtualised environment can handle real-time business communications at full capacity.

Meanwhile, TechTarget magazine advises businesses on strategies for maintaining network stability in disaster scenarios using virtualised services.

The publication asserts that risk is reduced by outsourcing data servers to minimise the physical architecture that could be damaged in the event of destructive natural occurrences such as storms and earthquakes.
