SMEs 'gain boost from technology'

Bringing in new technologies can provide significant boosts to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), it has been suggested. A study by the InfoTech Research Group found that IT executives believed that bringing in new technologies in the right place can be of great importance to smaller firms. A high value was placed on data access by the IT executives interviewed in the survey, due to the efficiency benefits it can provide if organised well. Jim Schoolenburg, the director of small and medium business for Microsoft Canada, which commissioned the study, said it highlighted the increasingly important business role played by IT. "The number one growth enabler was technology to deliver increased worked productivity," he said. But he added: "It's not just about the technology though.
