Retailers 'lagging' in security

A new study by analyst Deloitte has suggested the retail industry is less sophisticated when it comes to IT security. Despite a growing awareness among IT leaders of the importance of maintaining secure business communications systems, there is still a lack of implementation, a new report by Deloitte states. However, 73 per cent of retail IT specialists said that data breaches are a prime concern in terms of damaging the firms reputation - highlighting the business need to ensure data solutions are secure. Only 20 per cent of those interviewed said that they had a robust and formally defined information security strategy. "Overall I think it's fair to say there's a long way to go in terms of the maturity of security in the industry," said Deloitte spokesperson Andy Morris. However, he told vnunet.com that he was still shocked that more businesses had not taken protective measures to ensure data security. Another recent report by Deloitte highlighted the importance of data security as a top concern for businesses.
