Portable PC sales 'set to grow'

IDC's projection that portable PC sales will grow by double digits is leading companies to look to increase sales, it has been revealed. According to a computing expert, notebooks and netbooks are set to drive the growth of the UK PC market, Computerweekly.co.uk reports. David Drummond told the website there has been a lot of interest in budget portable systems following the success of the Asus Fee netbook. The managing director of PC manufacturer Acer said notebooks and netbooks stand out as key units at the moment. He continued: "I think that there is plenty of scope for enterprise customers to realise the benefits of remote working with these machines in situations where a PDA or smartphone keyboard simply isn't big enough." Meanwhile, analyst Gartner has revealed PC shipments in Europe, the Middle East and Africa in the second quarter of 2008 have reached 23.1 million units, a 23.5 per cent increase on the same period last year.
