Network security is 'vital'

With the recent emergence of unified network solutions, establishing and maintaining system security is becoming increasingly improtant, one analyst suggests. Commenting on TechTarget, industry critic Brien M Posey has said that businesses should look to evaluate all areas of system security in unified communications networks instead of treating it as an extension of VoIP deployment. "A lot of administrators seem to be oblivious to the need for specialised unified messaging security, and therefore they work to secure unified communications networks in the same way that they would secure any other IP-based network," he comments. Mr Posey identifies a number of key areas of consideration for IT managers, with distinctive strategies needed to deal with individual threats. Tailored malware prevention systems are essential to system stability, he says, with such risks set to become increasingly prevalent as intruders look to target instant messaging systems and VoIP functionality. Analysis firm Strategic Risk also states that as dependence on digital communications increases, system security becomes an ever more important issue for business managers.
