Mobile broadband 'on the rise'

Mobile broadband is becoming a staple of communications and beginning to penetrate the mass market, it is claimed.

Its rise is comparable to that of mobile phones in the 1990s and could spell the end of traditional broadband services, according to Jessica McArdle from Top 10 Broadband.

She says mobile broadband is "cheaper than ever" and suggests so-called free services could be offered as early as next year.

Ms McArdle predicts mobile broadband could have a similar impact to mobile phones on traditional landlines.

There is an "insatiable appetite for cheap mobile broadband and this hunger has led to packages that are cheaper, faster and more inclusive than they were two years ago," she adds.

It was announced recently over two-thirds of the UK wholesale broadband market is to be deregulated.

Competition-boosting restrictions are set to be lifted in areas of the country where there are four or more broadband providers after approval was granted at European level, according to ZDnet.
