Lack of IT skills 'squeezing business'

Industry analyst Gartner has released a new report asserting that a lack of business IT skills in the UK is holding back companies' growth. The new study states that a number of critical areas need to be addressed if businesses are to communicate effectively. Particularly, firms need to adapt to challenges that require workers to operate as hybrid professionals - possessing both traditional business skills and IT skills - to alleviate the problems of constrained resources. Gartner vice-president Andy Kyte states: "This is a massive and devastating skills shortage and it is coming when there is a surge in the number of projects that are required from IT." CIO Insight noted a report late last year that demonstrated that businesses grew faster and lowered costs more when they focused on streamlining IT needs with business communications models to make the two more aligned. "Aligning IT strategy and business strategy is the ultimate goal, it has been for 30 years," said a spokesperson for the study.
