IT modernisation 'a key priority'

A new Gartner report has claimed that IT managers must make modernisation of communications infrastructure a key priority in the coming year. The analysis firm asserts that it is vital to keep up with technological developments, which will result in IT managers facing a possible gap in business skills and productivity. Dale Vecchio, research vice president at Gartner, said that data solutions were of key importance, with chief information officers (CIOs) needing to upgrade and replace both software and hardware continually between 2008 and 2015. The problem is "compounded by the lack of integrated planning capability within many IT management teams", claims Gartner fellow Andy Kyte, highlighting the need for effective network solutions strategies. CIOs can combat the problem by adopting a synthesised network and data management strategy to maintain abreast of technological developments, the report states.
