IT directors 'need to take responsibility'

Highlighting the importance of secure network solutions, insurance provider Aon asserts that in the future IT directors may be held legally responsible for data breaches. Loss of revenue resulting from insecure business networks could soon be retrieved in litigation cases that aim to establish due diligence. Proactive data solutions need to be enforced to protect companies against accusations of of corporate liability for security breaches, the provider states in the Strategic Risk publication. "On top of the direct loss from technology abuses, there are risks to the management of companies relating to how well they protect against the attacks," advised Tom Sheffield, technical director at Aon. He suggested that businesses should look to prioritise network security in order to protect against liability issues in the future, with secure network solutions and business continuity contingency planning identified as vital considerations. A white paper issued by IT Business Edge advises that firms need to look to adopt a comprehensive policy to ensuring data security, with cooperation needed between people, processes and technology.
