Forum aims to target security weakness

A new forum established to tackle business data security issues has found that 15 per cent of UK firms identify out-of-date technology as the foremost threat to company security. The Information Security Awareness Forum (ISAF), which commissioned the study, found that 79 per cent of businesses felt that employees did not know enough about how to protect company data. Over 1,300 businesses were involved in the study, which aimed to highlight the importance of a robust business data security strategy. "For a number of years, security awareness has been on the agenda for many organisations and more recently the emphasis has been on end-users and consumers," said Dr David King, chair of the ISAF But there is still a lot of room for improvement, he argues. The ISAF aims to promote awareness of the importance of making sure business communications are up-to-date and adequately protected. He added that businesses are often failing to protect systems sufficiently because of conflicting messages over correct security procedures, with a clear security strategy bringing benefits for workers.
