Endpoint authentication technologies knocked off index top spot

Network quality of service monitoring solutions have surpassed endpoint authentication technologies and risen to the top of the Network Security and Software Technology Heat Index, it has been revealed. The index by TheInfoPro (TIP), a marketing research and intelligence provider for the IT industry, gauges the immediacy of user need and planned spending for technology. It found Network Access Control (NAC) is continuing to lose popularity, with 65 per cent of organisations having no policy compared to 55 per cent in the last index. An additional 84 per cent of organisations have in place or are planning quality of service monitoring solutions. Bill Trussell, managing director of network research for TIP, said the results are not surprising as networking professionals are sceptical of whether or not it can deliver on its promise. He added: "At the same time, with the ever-increasing number of VoIP rollouts, networking decision-makers have had to change their emphasis to the network performance experience for their end users." The growth of VoIP is expected to be fuelled globally, with 7.8 million lines expected to be in place by 2012.
