Disaster recovery 'is biggest IT concern'

Working out contingency plans to keep a business up and running in the event of a disaster is the biggest worry for IT managers in the UK, a new study suggests. Six out of ten IT bosses in the UK and North America told BridgeHead Software that disaster recovery was their major concern for next year. Solutions for protecting IT systems against disaster events include outsourcing deals to put critical systems or data out harm's way, data archiving or remote working practices that allow for the firm to continue trading even out of the office. Tony Cotterill, chief executive officer and president of BridgeHead Software, said that data archiving was proving popular. "There has been a clear movement over the last few years to make data highly available and rapidly recoverable to support electronic business applications," Mr Cotterill said. "But now there is real momentum building up behind archiving as the data volumes on primary storage have grown out of control," he added.
