Data servers market 'stable'

A new report has found that worldwide growth in the data server market remained steady despite recent slowdowns in various financial industries. Revenue for network solutions hardware grew 2.4 per cent year over year to reach $15.7 billion (7.9 million) at the end of 2007, with analyst IDC reporting that 8 million server units were shipped globally throughout the year. "Server demand remained strong across most major market segments in the fourth quarter driven by a continued shift towards modularization," explained Matthew Eastwood, group vice president of IDC's Enterprise Platforms Group. He added that the growth reflected a trend among IT managers that saw data solutions systems being expanded and refreshed. Mr Eastwood stated that despite areas of economic slowdown, technological developments meant that the server market currently represented a solid area for investment for IT managers. Another recently published report by the firm found that around 50 per cent of small and medium sized businesses view technological advancements as a competitive tool that will assist business practices.
