'Confusion' over green IT

Those involved in network solutions and business communications could be confused over the issues surrounding green IT, it has been claimed. According to research from analyst Gartner, IT users are unsure of the implications green technology can have on their organisations and perplexed over how to spend their budgets. Rakesh Kumar, research vice president at Gartner, said a host of conferences, presentations and consultants are available to provide advice on the issue. He added: "Unfortunately, with so much hype, users are left with a sense of confusion about where and when they should invest their time and money." To remedy the problem, the firm recommends IT managers interested in the sector focus on a limited number of areas, such as modern data centre design concepts, virtualisation technologies for server consolidation and server efficiency. Recent research by CompTIA found UK small and medium-sized firms are more open to developments such as green IT, according to Management Consultancy.
