CIOs 'need to adapt' to business needs

Today's chief information officers (CIO) need to be able to adapt to the ever-changing requirements of business communications, it has been suggested. Kumar Parakala, president of the KPMG IT Advisory service, reports that while the role of the CIO is relatively new, it has still undergone comprehensive development in the last decade. Mr Parakala identifies a number of key areas of change, including the need to develop business growth strategies through effective IT management and to drive change and business transformation efforts. He adds that a number of CIOs are failing to add value to their business because they are unable to establish their role within companies. CIOs must look to cooperate fully with executives in order to develop a business communications structure that is responsive and flexible to commercial needs, he states in Australian IT. Meanwhile, Information Week reports that CIOs should implement network solutions in a way that collaborates effectively with the corporate structure, assuming responsibility not just for the IT department, but for the commercial success of the company.
