Distribution of next generation broadband 'crucial'

Next generation broadband is very important to businesses in the UK, according to an expert. Michael Phillips, product director at BroadbandChoice.co.uk, says the distribution of these services will be crucial to the country over the next 50 years. He states equal access to these services should be available to users in both rural and urban areas. Mr Phillips suggests next generation broadband will enable more businesses to offer home working and remote conferencing with greater ease than at present. He adds: "Particularly as we work in a service economy in this country where things like creative services, such as design, require that we can move large files over high bandwidth connections instantaneously. It will have a big impact." Significant social and economic value is expected to be generated from the deployment of next generation broadband, according to the Broadband Stakeholders Group. It also suggests that in the short-term there are unlikely to be large costs associated with delaying deployment and claims there may be value in waiting for a limited period while more information emerges.
