Communications technologies 'changing company-client relationships'

Companies' relationships with their customers are set to be radically altered by business communications technologies by 2013, it is claimed. A report by the Economic Intelligence Unit (EIU) suggests mobile and web-based innovations will continue to see technology change the way firms operate. Businesses which prepare for these changes stand to benefit from improved customer services and better client relationships, according to the EIU. Robin Bew, editorial director of the organisation, says the changes present a number of challenges which may extend beyond technology. "Firms will need to prepare their entire organisations to manage a much more responsive, customer-focused business," he adds. The claims by the EIU follow a report by Gartner which suggests 'cloud computing' is on the rise and could offer new means of delivering customer relations management. It says the innovation, which allows IT-related services to be delivered directly to users over the internet, frees companies from the requirement of buying and updating their own systems.
