Contact centres encouraged to embrace home working

Contact centres in the UK are being encouraged to experiment with using homeworkers during the Work Wise Week next month.

There are a reported 6,000 contact centres in the UK but only a tiny percentage of the one million staff working in them are home-based.

In the US, by 2010 a third of all contact centre workers are to be home-based agents but this is not the case in the UK.

Organisers of Work Wise Week are said to be supporting the moves, as jobs which are based at home help to open up the market for skilled workers.

The Work Wise Week will run from May 15th to May 21st and is organised by Work Wise UK. Its partners include the RAC foundation, the British Chamber of Commerce and TUC.

At the end of the week, a Work Wise Summit will be held in London.
