Remote workers 'will be covered'

Those employees that are remote working will be covered by insurance so long as the provider is aware of their circumstances, the National Group on Homeworking (NGH) has said.

According to the organisation, a business' employer liability insurance should mean all remote workers are fully incorporated within their policy.

Linda Devereux, director of the NGH, did warn, however, that the insurance is "totally reliant on the employer giving all the relevant information to their insurer".

She explained: "If homeworkers are employed by a company then the liability is the same wherever they are – if they're working on-site, as drivers…

"Lots of companies have members of staff who don't solely work on the premises."

The information is revealed as around five million employees prepare to take part in remote working as part of Work Wise Week.

It is hoped this month's exercise will enable employees to try out "better" working practices aimed at promoting a better "work-life" balance.
